Warm, crisp pizza dough, topped with crispy prosciutto, gooey goat cheese and topped with fresh arugula.

This Spicy Honey Prosciutto & Arugula Pizza consists of a golden crust topped with a blend of melted mozzarella, tangy goat cheese, complemented by savory prosciutto roses, and adorned in a Hot Honey Drizzle. This light and intentionally paired pizza is what girl dinner wishes it could be.

A LITTLE ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS…

  • Hot Honey: Adds a tantalizing sweetness with a fiery kick, elevating the flavor profile of the pizza. Brands like Mike’s Hot Honey or Savannah Bee Company offer varying levels of heat and floral notes.
  • Prosciutto: Provides a luxurious, savory element with a delicate texture, enhancing the pizza’s richness. Offers a balance of saltiness to complement the sweetness of the honey.
  • Arugula: Delivers a peppery freshness, offering a crisp contrast to the warm, savory components of the pizza. Adds a vibrant green hue and a touch of bitterness.
  • Red Pepper Flakes (optional): Introduces a bold, spicy heat that intensifies the overall flavor experience. Allows customization based on personal preference for spiciness.
  • Pre-made Pizza Dough: Offers convenience without compromising on flavor or texture. Provides a sturdy yet tender base for the toppings to shine.
  • Mozzarella Cheese: Melts into a gooey, stretchy layer that binds the toppings together. Contributes a creamy, mild flavor that complements the other ingredients.
  • Goat Cheese: Infuses a tangy, slightly earthy taste that adds depth to each bite. Forms creamy pockets of richness throughout the pizza.
  • Olive Oil: Coats the dough, imparting a subtle fruity flavor and ensuring a golden, crisp crust. Serves as a flavorful medium to infuse the dried herbs and garlic into the pizza.
  • Garlic: Releases aromatic, savory notes when combined with olive oil, enhancing the overall depth of flavor. Provides a subtle pungency that harmonizes with the sweetness of the honey.
  • Dried Herbs (Oregano, Thyme, Basil): Elevate the pizza’s seasoning profile with aromatic complexity. Blend seamlessly with the garlic-infused olive oil, creating a harmonious flavor base.

How to Make this Spicy Honey Prosciutto & Arugula Pizza Gluten-Free

  • Gluten-Free Crust: Instead of using pre-made pizza dough containing gluten, opt for a gluten-free pizza crust. You can find gluten-free pizza crust mixes or pre-made gluten-free pizza crusts at most grocery stores. Alternatively, you can make your own gluten-free pizza dough using a gluten-free flour blend.
  • Check Ingredients: Ensure that all other ingredients used in the recipe, such as the shredded mozzarella, goat cheese, prosciutto, arugula, and hot honey, are naturally gluten-free or labeled as such. Be cautious of any hidden sources of gluten in processed ingredients.
  • Follow the Same Steps: Simply follow the same steps outlined in the original recipe, but substitute the gluten-free crust for the regular pizza dough. Roll out the gluten-free crust, season it with the olive oil mixture, layer on the cheeses, prosciutto, and any other toppings, and bake according to the instructions for the gluten-free crust.

Storing & Freezing the Spicy Honey Prosciutto & Arugula Pizza

Storing:

  1. Refrigeration: Allow any leftover pizza to cool completely at room temperature. Once cooled, transfer the pizza slices to an airtight container or wrap them tightly in aluminum foil. Store the container or wrapped slices in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
  2. Avoid Moisture: To prevent the pizza crust from becoming soggy, place a sheet of parchment paper or wax paper between the stacked slices before storing them in the refrigerator.

Freezing:

  1. Preparation: If you’re planning to freeze the pizza, it’s best to do so before baking. Follow all the preparation steps up until baking, including assembling the pizza with toppings on the crust.
  2. Flash Freeze: Place the assembled pizza on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Place the baking sheet in the freezer and allow the pizza to freeze until firm, typically for about 1-2 hours.
  3. Wrap & Store: Once the pizza is firm, remove it from the freezer and wrap it tightly in several layers of plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Alternatively, place the wrapped pizza in a large freezer-safe resealable bag.
  4. Label & Date: Don’t forget to label the wrapped pizza with the date of freezing and any reheating instructions, if desired.

Reheating:

  1. From Refrigerator: To reheat refrigerated pizza slices, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the slices on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until heated through.
  2. From Freezer: For frozen pizza, unwrap it and place it directly on a baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until heated through and the crust is crispy.

*Try to ensure arugula is taken off the top for the reheat process

Details & Considerations

  • Pre-made Pizza Dough:
    • Ensure the dough is brought to room temperature before rolling it out to prevent it from shrinking back.
    • Dust your work surface and rolling pin with flour to prevent sticking.
  • Baking Temperature and Time:
    • Follow the temperature and time specified on the pre-made pizza dough packaging for optimal results.
    • Keep an eye on the pizza towards the end of the baking time to prevent burning.
  • Assembly:
    • Distribute the toppings evenly across the pizza to ensure each slice has a balanced flavor.
    • Consider layering the ingredients strategically to prevent them from becoming soggy during baking.
  • Drizzling Hot Honey:
    • Adjust the amount of hot honey drizzled based on your preference for sweetness and spiciness.
    • Drizzle the hot honey over the pizza while it’s still warm for optimal flavor dispersion.
  • Adding Arugula:
    • Wait until the pizza has cooled slightly before adding the arugula to prevent it from wilting.
    • Scatter the arugula evenly over the pizza for a visually appealing presentation.
  • Customization:
    • Feel free to customize the recipe by adding or omitting ingredients according to your taste preferences.
    • Experiment with different cheeses or additional toppings to create your unique flavor combinations.
