Hi, I’m Kals.

This is my food and wellness blog, Red Lid Lemonade.

Where It All Started…

Every recipe you’ll find here is a memory from the people, places, and times I love the most. “Red Lid Lemonade” is the root of where it all began.

Growing up we’d all gather under the stars and the summer air would hug our skin in warm embrace. Cicadas buzzed in the Chilean mesquite trees, singing their songs about the impending monsoon season. During the summer, our friends and loved ones would gather for a big dinner and for my mom’s super sneaky “Red Lid Lemonade” – lemonade famously labeled with a red lid on the top of the pitcher to indicate that it contained absurd amounts of liquor that wouldn’t otherwise be detected by taste, (a blessing and a curse if you aren’t careful.) A little of that lemonade and a belly full of hot, delicious food always acted as a catalyst to bring everyone together right before the long awaited summer storms.

Helping to cook for all of our family and friends quickly became one of my greatest comforts. I adopted my mom’s ‘secret’ lemonade recipe and began hosting my own Red Lid Lemonade nights. As a result, cooking food has become a deeply ingrained love language and a source of comfort I now get to share with you.

I’m glad you’re here!

Now, let me introduce myself: I’m a sucker for morning coffee, Salvador Dali, and stormy nights. When I’m not cooking, I’m at home either making art or listening to mystery/crime podcasts (Rotten Mango is my favorite). Any other free moment is spent cooking for the people I love the most. I believe in living simply and bringing people together over a hot plate of food. I have always cooked for those I love and found that mindfulness was most often achieved with a full belly. That has translated to be my most frequently exercised love language.

The people I am lucky enough to love and have in my life are the inspirations for most of my recipes, and I am thankful for the power food has to bring everyone together, including bringing us together! I’m absolutely stoked you’re here. Now that introductions are out of the way, allow me to ask you a question: Have you eaten today?

“People who love to eat are always the best people.”
